Quantum shooters killed policeman

Police in Cape Town are hunting for killers after an officer was murdered in Khayelitsha on Sunday night. The victim has been identified as Sergeant Themba Mphalala, a dedicated officer from Mfuleni. The officer died inside his car after two gunmen from a Toyota Quantum shot at him and his friend Loyiso Sizani(39).

Sergeant Mphalala, 37, was off-duty at the time, had visited Sizani in Site B, Khayelitsha. As they sat in the officer’s car outside his friend’s residence on Cwayayi Street, a Toyota Quantum taxi suddenly pulled up. The gunmen proceeded to open fire upon them.

Tragically, Sergeant Mphalala succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His friend was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life. Preliminary investigations suggest that two gunmen were involved in the attack on the off-duty officer and his friend.

Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the police spokesman confirmed the incident. “The suspects opened fire and hit both occupants several times,” stated Pojie. “The policeman tragically lost his life, while his friend was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment,” he said.

Sergeant Themba Mphalala dedicated 13 years of his life to serving in the police force. At the time of his untimely death, he was attached to the Bellville SAPS.
