A 47-year-old detective from Grassy Park has been arrested and charged with the rape of his own 15-year-old daughter. The detective, who is based at Pinelands SAPS in Cape Town, made his initial appearance in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 26th.
The arrest came after the victim confided in her school principal about the ongoing abuse, prompting immediate action from the authorities. The detective was arrested and taken into custody.
It is alleged that the abuse began back in March, when the officer found a test kit at home that he suspected was a pregnancy test. Despite his daughter’s explanation that it was a drug test, he insisted on verifying it for himself, leading to a disturbing pattern of abuse that continued for several months.
The extent of the abuse finally came to light when the teenage girl bravely shared her ordeal with her school principal. This incident happens while the courts are still dealing with another cause of a police officer who raped his girlfriend’s daughter. Warrant Officer Andre van Heerden ,56, from Lenteguer SAPS, was also arrested for the rape of a 14-year-old girl, who happens to be his girlfriend’s daughter. According to reports, Van Heerden allegedly provided the young girl and her friend with alcohol and drugs before perpetrating the assault. The victim woke up to find her pants soaked in blood, catching Van Heerden in the act.
Van Heerden has since been granted bail for R3000.
