St John’s congregants in Driftsands were shocked to find a dead body of a man just opposite their church building on Saturday morning. Mfundisi and his wife were busy with their church business when they were informed about the dead body.
The body was just a stone throw away from the church. Even people standing in the church could see the body. The man was wearing a black jacket, dark blue trousers and a white t-shirt underneath.
The gruesome was discovered around 8 am on Saturday 18 March along Old Faure road. The body was discovered by a motorist who was passing by the road in the area. “He stopped his car and asked whether we had seen that there was a dead body opposite the church. We went to check and saw a man sleeping on his back in a mud pond with some grass. His left hand was raised in the air. I do not know whether he drowned in the mud while drunk or he was dumped there. We sleep here in the church but we didn’t hear anything,” said the pastor.
Congregants who were at the church said they were also shocked by the incident. The pastor and the congregants then stopped a police van that was passing by. “It’s scary that a body is found just close to the place of worship. We just wish the deceased man finds his family and gets a decent burial,” added one congregant.
