A woman killed at the Strand Municipality building in Cape Town on Monday 08 January 2024 morning has been identified as Bongeka Bidi. She is the wife of a taxi boss who was killed in Qumbu in October 2023.
Bongeka(41) was a City of Cape Town’s employee and she had just arrived at work the moment she was murdered. The deceased was attacked while she was parking her vehicle in the parking lot. A gunman who had two firearms in his hands walked from a white Opel Astra and shot Bongeka. He fired several shots through the driver’s side window killing Bongeka instantly.
Police have however managed to arrest two suspects aged 26 and 46 in connection with the killing. According to police spokesman in Cape Town Captain Frederick Van Wyk, the Provincial Serious and Violence Crimes: Taxi Violence Unit investigated and arrested two men in Khayelitsha just a day after the murder.
“Sterling investigations by members attached to the Provincial Serious and Violence Crimes: Taxi Violence Unit led to the arrests of two suspects aged 26 and 46 following a murder on Monday, 08 January 2024, in Strand.
“This incident occurred at about 08:15 at the parking area, Strand Municipal Building, Main Road, Strand, where a 41-year-old woman was shot and fatally wounded. The suspect fled the scene in a white Opel Astra.
“Several witnesses’ statements were obtained, and a vehicle used by the suspect was identified. The vehicle was tested on the system and positively identified at a premises in Site C Khayelitsha. The vehicle was confiscated and booked in as an exhibit at Stikland,” said Van Wyk.
