Two law enforcement officers died in a car accident in Kraaifontein today early in the morning.
The officers were off duty at the time of the incident.
Officers Sixolile Maram and Simphiwe Ntsham were attached to the Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) Unit in Kraaifontein.
According to a joint statement from MMC of Safety and Security Jean-Pierre Smith and MEC of Community Safety Reagan Allen, the accident happened on Boy Briers Road, Joostenbergvlakte, Kraaifontein
The statement said the vehicle they were travelling in, left the road and overturned.
“Both officers who were off duty, were found outside the vehicle and declared deceased on the scene, which occurred at Boy Briers Road, Joostenbergvlakte, Kraaifontein,” said the statement.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Allen said: “I extend my sincerest condolences to the families, loved ones and colleagues of these officers. I want them to know that they are in all our thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.
“I pray that they will find strength and peace in these moments of sorrow and pain. It is important that there be no speculation about what might have occurred.
“We should allow SAPS to conclude their investigation. I intend to visit the families to personally extend my heartfelt sympathies.”
Alderman JP Smith has already spoken with the families.
“I have reached out to both families to speak to them personally to commiserate with them about these tragic deaths. Each staff member in our directorate is part of our Safety & Security family and their deaths are felt by us all. We will support their families with counselling and any arrangements they need to make.”
