Khayelitsha nurse appears in court over police officer’s murder

Yanga Dunken Madolo(40) appeared today in Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder. This is after he allegedly killed a policeman Captain Siphumeza Lusasa(37).

Madolo works at Khayelitsha District Hospital in the trauma unit.

Lusasa was stabbed at the popular eParkini hang-out spot along Spine Road in Khayelitsha on Saturday night.

Hawks spokeswoman Zinzi Hani said the officer was stabbed after an argument over parking space. At first, the argument was between Madolo’s girlfriend and Lusasa.

It is when Madolo intervened and stabbed the officer in the chest and flee from the scene. He later handed himself over to the police.

Hani said the officer was on standby duties at the time of the incident.

“It is reported that Captain Lusasa was on standby duties at the time of the incident. It is alleged that the officer was involved in an argument with a lady where the suspect who is the boyfriend of the lady attacked the officer and stabbed him multiple times.

“A member of the public who was on the scene, transported the officer to Khayelitsha hospital where he was unfortunately declared dead on arrival,” said Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani.

The suspect has since handed himself to Lingelethu West police station after he had disappeared from the scene after the incident. He will appear in court on 24 January on the charges of murder.

The matter is remanded to 30 January 2023 for bail information.
