Officers who were patrolling in Gugulethu on Thursday night arrested a 21-year-old man with a loaded gun. The man was arrested in NY97 around 11pm.
Cops who were part of the Operation Restore in Gugulethu were busy with stop and searches in NY 97 Gugulethu when they noticed a suspicious looking man. The man tried to turn around into another direction whenn he saw the police vehicles.
“The members pursued and apprehended him and when searched, found a 9mm short firearm in his possession. The 21-year-old male was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm,” said police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk.
Residents in Gugulethu told Ezitshisayo, that people are always robbed on the streets. “If you walk on the street, you get robbed by these gun totting thugs. A friend of mine was robbed on the same day when she was coming from a neighbour’s house just a stone throws away from her own house. It was not even late, 8pm but out streets are already dangerous,” said resident Noluxolo Tsopo.
In a separate incident on the same day, cops patrolling in Dondonga Maseko Street in Kuyasa spotted a man running from them. When they gave a chase on foot the suspicious man disappeared between the shacks.
“Upon returning to where he started running from, the members found a firearm. The members found nine 9mm rounds of ammunition with the inspection of the firearm,” said Van Wyk.
