Police in Eastern Cape has opened a case of attempted murder after a University of Fort Hare employee was found with a covered mouth and tied hands.
The man (32) did not turn up for work on Wednesday 18 when his colleagues decided to check on him. On arrival they found him inside his flat tied up. They untied him and rushed him to the hospital as he was not looking fine.
Police spokesman in Eastern Cape Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana confirmed the incident.
“Police opened a case of attempted murder this comes after a 32-year-old University of Fort Hare employee was found in his flat with his hands tied and mouth covered yesterday.
“According to reports, the victim was only noticed by his colleagues after he did not report at work. They then went to investigate in his flat, where they eventually found him. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care after they noticed that he was not well,” Kinana said.
Kinana said cops are look for the leads in order to arrest the culprits. The incident happened few weeks after the Vice Chancellor of the University survived an assassination attempt that led to the death of his security man.

Cops said so far they are not associating or linking the incident to the recent killing.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation. No injuries were reported.
“A case of attempted murder has been registered for investigation. No arrest made at this stage. It must be noted that the SAPS does not relate or associate this incident with previous incidents which were reported and associated with Fort Hare University employees,” he said.
