Police in Cape Town are asking the public for assistance to track a driver who hit a pedestrian and sped off the accident scene.

The incident happened on Christmas day in Bonteheuwel at night. Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said the vehicle was driving on Jakes Gerwel’s drive on Sunday, 25 December 2022 between 20:30 and 21:35. The man sustained injuries and died later on.

“Bishop Lavis police are seeking the assistance of the public to trace the driver of a motor vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Bonteheuwel. The driver fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel,” said Gwala.

She said anyone who has information that might assist in the investigation is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Warrant officer Van Schalkwyk on 082 312 7221 or crime stop at 08600 10111.
