A woman has been knocked to death in a taxi accident that happened near Bonteheuwel earlier today. According to the witnesses, the driver was driving on the opposite side of the road when the incident happened.
Bonteheuwel councilor Angus Mackenzie said the incident happened on the Jakkelsvlei Bridge coming from Valhalla Drive in Kalksteenfontein.
“It is alleged that the taxi driver drove on the opposite side of the road when the accident occurred.
We have consistently warned and engaged on the reckless driving by taxi drivers in the morning peak with a number of taxi insisting on using Bonteheuwel as shortcut to various other roads,” said Mackenzie.
Law enforcement and traffic cops together with SAPS arrived at the scene few minutes after the incident. The driver was arrested at the scene.
“Our deepest sympathy goes to the family and friends of the deceased. The behavior of taxi’s on our roads is nothing short of disgusting, and with this arrest, we will track this case to the end to ensure that justice is served. This life should never have been lost,” added Mackenzie.
On Tuesday last week, a taxi driving from Khayelitsha overturned on R300 leading to the death of three women.
