Police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Unit have raided and searched the office of Mayco Member of Human Settlements Malusi Booi. The incident happened last night 15 March at around 8pm at the Civic Centre.
Computers and various documents from his offices were seized. MEC of Human Settlement Tertius Simmers confirmed the developments which he said are still sketchy.
“Details are scarce and sketchy, and I am presently enquiring into the matter and therefore I will hold back a comprehensive statement until the facts, context, and investigation details are better known to me. For the moment I confirm that the Western Cape Government, the Department of Infrastructure, the Western Cape DA, and all of the combined arms of government in the Western Cape, unreservedly condemn any and all irregular and illegal influences upon the execution of good governance,” he said.
Police spokesman Colonel Andre Traut confirmed the incident. He said the seizure relates to fraud and corruption investigation which he cannot divulge at the moment.
“Kindly be advised that what you are enquiring about is part of an investigation into fraud and corruption which saw detectives attached to the Commercial Crime Investigation Unit execute a search warrant at an office at the Civic Centre, Cape Town yesterday afternoon where electronic equipment and documents were confiscated. Details of this seizure and investigation cannot be divulged at this premature stage,” said Traut.
