Some taxi commuters are feared dead after their taxi overturned on R300 earlier this morning.
The taxi crashed near Stellenbosch Arterial as it was travelling from Harare to Bellville. The crashed taxi has a Codeta sticker.
City of Cape Town’s Traffic Spokesman Kevin Jacobs said they are still waiting for more information about the accident. He confirmed that the paramedics are still on the scene treating some people.
“Two far left lanes obstructed, emergency services are on scene. Waiting for further information on the accident scene,” he said.
The pictures and videos in the possession of Ezitshisayo shows some bodies of commuters under an overturned taxi. An eyewitness who spoke to Ezitshisayo said she suspects three people have died. “One was under the taxi that was lying on its side while two others looked lifeless on the side of the taxi. Others looked seriously injured, it was not looking good. If you have a family member that took a taxi to Bellville from Harare today just check on them,” said the source.
Motorists who were driving on R300 said they struggled to pass the accident scene as two lanes were closed. This is a developing story, we will update as we get more information..
