Police in Cape Town are on the hunt for a killer after a brazen murder of a woman in Wynberg on Thursday last week. The woman, who was shot and killed after she had just left the court room, was reportedly a witness in an ongoing case.
Eyewitnesses said the woman was walking with two other women when a gunman walked up to her and shot her from behind. The other women reportedly ran for cover, leaving the victim lying motionless on the street.
“Preliminary reports reveal that the unknown deceased was walking in the street near the court when she was approached by unknown gunmen who started shooting at her, wounding her fatally,” said Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie. “She succumbed to injury on the scene and was declared as dead by medical personnel.”
Police are now appealing to the public for any information that could help with their investigation. The victim was reportedly attending a court case as she was a witness in a case dating back to 2018.
“The circumstances regarding her death are still sketchy at this stage and we appeal to anyone who might have witnessed the incident to come forward with information that could assist us,” said Pojie.
The community of Wynberg has been left shaken by the senseless killing, and residents are calling for justice to be served. “This is not the first time we have heard of a murder in our area, and it is getting out of control,” said one resident. “We need our streets to be safe for all citizens, and we need the police to be proactive in fighting crime.”
A video has emerged online showing a man firing two shots to the woman at close range. The man is seen running away and disappeared. Anyone with information is requested to call Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or to contact the Wynberg detectives.
