A Cape Town woman is happy to escape from kidnappers after she was assisted by law enforcement officials in Rondebosch on Friday 10 March.
Kidnappers bundled the woman in the car and drove with her around as they were looking for an ATM for her to withdraw money from her bank account. Officers who were on patrol in Rondebosch managed to pulled over a vehicle after several reports of the driver committing a number of traffic offences.
“The officers picked up on tension between the occupants and when they interviewed the female occupant, she told them she had been kidnapped earlier in Muizenberg and had been forced to accompany them as they attempted to withdraw funds from her bank account,” said Mayco member for Safety and Security Jean-Pierre Smith.
Smith said the woman was grateful to officers for saving her from the worst that could have happened to her.
“The victim was incredibly grateful to the officers for intervening when they did, but this could have had a very different outcome. The City again extends its offer of assistance to the South African Police Service in tackling the scourge of kidnapping and extortion,” said Smith.
