Police are investigating a case of murder after a matric student was shot and killed in Eastridge, Mitchells Plain, Cape Town.
The incident happened on Thursday 19, a day before matric results were released.
It is alleged that the 18-year-old Wakeel Dreyer was at a nearby tuck shop in Palestina shop when he was attacked. Onlookers said 17 bullets were pumped into Wakeel’s body. It is not clear why he was killed in such a brutal murder.
Another eyewitness said the teenager’s mother was hysteric at the scene after she saw his body. “At first she was in denial. She said it was not his son since she arrived when he was already covered. When he was uncovered for her to see, she broke his tears. She was crying uncontrollably at the scene,” said a witness.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said police responded to the scene and saw a young man with multiple gunshots.

“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
“The motive for the attack is yet to be determined,” Swartbooi said.
