A man from Butterworth appeared in court today after he was arrested with a male private part on Thursday 20 April.
The suspect, a man aged 32 appeared in Butterworth Magistrate’s court facing charges of unlawful possession of human tissue.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said the man was arrested at the mall as he was looking for a buyer.
“A 32-year-old man appeared in the Butterworth magistrate’s court today on charges of unlawful possession of a human tissue. It is alleged that the suspect was arrested by members of the public, after they allegedly found him in possession of a male body part at a shopping Mall in Butterworth on Thursday afternoon, 20 April 2023. It is believed that he was looking for a ’buyer’ in Butterworth,” Nkohli said.
Cops investigation found out that the man whose private parts were cut is in hospital fighting for his life.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that a private part was removed (cut) from a 68-year-old man in OR Tambo District, who is currently in hospital. The suspect will later be transferred to Mthatha, where he is expected to face a charge of attempted murder,” added Nkohli.
Eastern Cape Commissioner General Nomthetheleli Mene condemned the incident and applauded police and members of the public for working together. “This is a despicable and cruel act. The actions of the suspect is inhumane and justice must take its course,” said Mene.
