The community of Gugulethu in NY5 in Cape Town is reeling from shock after a shooting incident occurred near midnight, leaving four men and one woman dead. The local police together with Serious Violent Crimes (SVC) detectives, have launched an investigation into the gruesome incident.
According to Police spokesman Colonel Andre Traut, the incident took place when the victims were seated in their parked cars on the side of the road in NY 5. Traut revealed that multiple suspects were dropped off a short distance away from the victims’ vehicles by another car. The suspects then approached the parked cars and began firing numerous shots at them. Once the shooting concluded, the suspects quickly fled the scene in the same vehicle that had dropped them off.
No information has been released regarding the identities of the victims at this time. However, Traut assured the public that SVC detectives are fully committed to solving the case and are diligently following multiple leads. As of now, no arrests have been made.
The shooting has sent shockwaves throughout the community, prompting concerns over the rise in violent incidents in the area. This is because, less than a week, on 25 September, five people including a lawyer were shot in Gugulethu.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed or have any information related to the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation.
