A 14-year-old boy died in a stabbing incident happened in Witsands, Atlantis in Cape Town over the past weekend. The boy was stabbed on 03 December around 2am.
The incident happened after two school boys argued over undisclosed issue during the party after midnight at a local tavern. The boys were allegedly drinking and smoking.
It is alleged that the 15-year-old pulled a knife and stabbed the other boy once on his chest and he fell on the ground. Some of the kids arranged a car and he was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Both boys are not matriculants but they joined matriculants celebrations.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said the matter is under investigation.
“Atlantis police attended a crime scene in the early hours of Sunday 04 December 2022. Upon arrival at local hospital in Atlantis, they found the body of a 14 year old male who sustained a stab wound to his chest.
“The victim was declared deceased by the medical personnel. The motive for the attack is unknown. A 15 year old suspect has since been arrested and detained. Atlantis police are investigating a murder,” he said.
A resident from the area said a group of over 20 school kids including matric learners had filled up a shebeen in the area.

“Before the stabbing things were all good as they were dancing and singing along to music. They were actually disturbing our sleep,” said a resident.
The Western Cape department of Education said they are aware of the incident. They said learners from the school the boy was attending will get some counselling.
The boy’s memorial service was held at the Kerria primary school in Atlantis where the boy was a learner. He was in grade seven.
