A body of an unknown man was found at a veranda of a shop in Covid-19.

Residents from Covid-19 Informal Settlement in Driftsands near Mfuleni in Cape Town woke up to a dead body at a veranda of a spaza shop on Sunday 28 July 2023.

Some residents from who live close to the T-junction of Old Faure and Mew Way Road in Driftsands said they heard man screaming for help.
“We didn’t open our doors because we didn’t know what was happening and what would have happened to us. In most cases, these robbers are armed with big guns, so I told my husband not to open the door. I could see that he wanted to go out to see what was happening, but I was worried that we could lose him as well,” said a 41-year-old Ntombi Magoda woman from Covid-19.

The body of the man was full of stab wounds and open cuts. His body was found at the veranda of a building that looked like a shop. The people who were at the shop didn’t want to talk about the incident as they said that they were not around when the incident happened.

“We were equally shocked to see a body on our veranda. It looks like the person was attacked and was left alive but bleeding. Because it was raining, the deceased could have moved to the veranda of our shop and died,” said a man who works at the shop who didn’t want to be named.

Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said a murder case of murder has been opened for investigation.
“Mfuleni police registered a murder case for investigation after the body of a unknown man was found in the Covid informal settlement, Driftsands, on Sunday, 28 July 2024. Police members were called to the crime scene where they saw the victim had multiple injuries to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspects are yet to be arrested,” said Twigg.
