The family of Zintle Xabanisa(21) from Kraaifontein is looking for answers after her body was found in a pool of mud two weeks ago. Zintle had visited her boyfriend Cwenga Msobongwana on Saturday 06 July. Her body was found in a pool of mud on Sunday during the heavy rains.
Her body full of stab wounds was found in between two homes in Maroela housing project, in Bloekombos area. The distraught family said they still need answers to know what happened to their daughter. She was half-naked as her panty and one sock were missing.
Two weeks after the incident happened, the family said no one has been arrested in connection with the murder. On Saturday 13 July, residents took to the streets demanding the arrest of the people who are suspect to have killed Zintle.
A group of residents started by questioning Cwenga since Zintle had left her home to visit him. Cwenga said he saw Zintle the day before her death, but he didn’t spend time with her. “I was drinking and watching soccer with my friends at a nearby tavern. I gave her the keys for the house, and I continued watching the game and drinking. However, when I later came home, she was nowhere to be found but my shack was locked,” said Cwenga.
For to enter his home, he had to break the burglar gate. Cwenga said before breaking his home, he had asked his neighbour whether she had seen Zintle. The neighbour told him that he had gone with a man who she was smoking hookah pipe with.
In the morning, the same man who left with Zintle allegedly knocked at Cwenga’s home and told him that his girlfriend had died. He told Cwenga and his neighbour that he went with Zintle and they bought lollipops before he walked her halfway to Cwenga’s home.
Cwenga took the man to Zintle’s family where he explained the same story to them. A group of residents now want answers from the man, but he is nowhere to be found. Cwenga only know him from the street but never knew his name or where he stayed.
Residents are on the other hand blaming police for failing to investigate and swiftly arresting suspects. Zintle’s father Monwabisi Jonase said the death of his daughter has left him heartbroken.
Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed the incident, saying the circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
