Nyanga SAPS is investigating after a dead body of a newly born baby was found in Siyahlala informal settlement on Monday 17 April, early in the morning. The body was discovered by cleaners who were working in the area early in the morning.
A resident Lilitha Ngxaza(45) said they were shocked to see the meaty object wrapped in a plastic bag. When they checked the plastic they received the shock of their lives. “We could see that it was a baby, I was shocked and hurt at the same time. There are people who are looking for kids but cannot get them yet someone dumps and kill a child,” she said.
Another resident said they are shocked and wished police arrest whoever dumped the child. “I wonder if the child is from a person from this area because I do not know of anyone who was pregnant recently. It can happen that someone comes from somewhere to dump their things here. I just hope police will get to the bottom of it,” said resident Thobeka Ngqoyiyana.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident. “Nyanga police registered a concealment of birth case after a foetus was discovered in Aspen Road, Browns Farm. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. Anyone with any information about this incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Twigg.
