The Public Utility Transport Corporation (Putco) has lost 50 buses in one night. This flows a reported series of violent incidents in Mpumalanga last night. Two employees were injured during the attacks. Putco spokesperson, Lindokuhle Xulu said buses were set on fire at four depots across Mpumalanga.

The violence started on Monday night, 27 January 2025. At the Moloto depot, attackers tied up security staff. They set buses on fire and fired shots inside. One employee was shot in the leg. Another was hit on the head with a chair.

The attacks spread to other depots overnight. Buses were burned at Wolwekraal, Siyabuswa, and Vaalbank. In total, 50 buses were destroyed.
