Shootout between police and Inkabi left three dead

Police officers engaged in a shootout with armed suspects, resulting in the death of three individuals and injuries to two others. The incident unfolded near Mhlophekazi in Ngcobo, in Eastern Cape on Monday 11 March where members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) intercepted a suspicious vehicle on a gravel road between Nkondlo and Clarkebery.

According to reports, as law enforcement officers attempted to stop the vehicle, occupants inside opened fire on them. In response, the police retaliated, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. In the aftermath of the shootout, three suspects were fatally wounded, two sustained injuries, while the sixth individual was apprehended at the scene.

District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph commended the swift and decisive actions of the police officers involved in the operation. “There is a possibility that these men were operating as iinkabi (hired murderers),” he stated.
