Cape Town floods have come with road accidents that have killed commuters on Monday 25 September.
Early in the morning, tragedy struck when a Golden Arrow bus, carrying commuters to work, crashed amidst the treacherous conditions caused by the flooding. Later in the afternoon, a collision occurred on Bottelary Road along Stellenbosch farms involving a taxi and a light motor vehicle.
Eyewitnesses report that the Toyota Quantum taxi, carrying a full load of passengers from Kraaifontein, collided with the other vehicle. It is believed that two people lost their lives in the accident, while others sustained injuries. The passengers of the light motor vehicle were also heavily injured in the collision.
Kevin Jacobs, a spokesperson for the traffic police, confirmed the incident. However, he was unable to provide the exact number of casualties at the time. Jacobs mentioned that the South African Police Service (SAPS) was handling the scene, with traffic officers present to assist as needed. Police have yet to respond to their inquiry.
These tragic accidents highlight the dangers posed by the Cape Town floods and the necessity for increased vigilance and caution on the roads. Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has called residents to stay at home and avoid unnecessary traveling.
