Police have arrested three men after a high speed chase with a Toyota Fortuner in Strand on Thursday 13 April. The gang has allegedly terrorised residents in Lwandle and surrounding areas. The gang would break into people’s homes in broad daylight and steal their belongings.
Members of the community who were suspicious of the Fortuner called police and reported. When the cops responded, the vehicle sped off. Police chased and arrested three men between the ages of 25 and 35. The men were charged for housebreaking and theft.
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident. “The members received information of a Toyota Fortuner that are involved in housebreakings in the area. The vehicle was spotted and when the members attempted to intercept the vehicle, the driver sped off.
“A high speed chase ensued and the vehicle was stopped in Onverwacht Road. The vehicle was searched and housebreaking implements were found in the vehicle. The possibility that the suspects might be linked to other cases will be investigated,” said Twigg.
The suspects briefly appeared in court Strand Magistrate’s Court on Monday 14 April on the mentioned charges.
