The R300 accident that happened on Tuesday earlier in the morning has claimed the lives of three women from Khayelitsha. According to the Western Cape Emergency Medical Services spokesman Byron La Hoe, 11 injured people were transported to Tygerberg Hospital, Khayelitsha, Eerste River, Delft and Karl Bremer Hospital.
Kevin Jacobs, the City of Cape Town traffic spokesman also confirmed that three people have been killed. The deceased, he said are women between the ages of 25 and 30. He said according to the information from SAPS, the accident was caused due to a tyre burst. The driver of the taxi was not injured during the accident. The passengers transported to the hospital have slight injuries.

La Hoe said: “Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the call at 08:57 of a suspected overturned minibus taxi near Stellenbosch Arterial. Unfortunately, three persons died in this crash. EMS transported 11 patients who sustained injuries to various facilities which included Tygerberg, Khayelitsha, Eerste, Delft and Karl Bremer Hospitals. We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.”
Ezitshisayo’s source Pearl Swartbooi who was at the scene earlier said some commuters were trapped under the taxi. “It took time for them to be assisted because the who taxi was resting on top of their bodies. It was a gruesome scene,” she said.
