Woman shot on her way from spaza shop
Simamkele Dzim

The grandmother of a young woman who was shot and killed while walking from a spaza shop on Sunday morning in KTC, Gugulethu, Cape Town is heartbroken. Simamkele Dzim(27) took a walk from her home to a spaza shop to buy bread from the next street but she didnt manage to return home alive.

Onlookers said she was shot by two men who came out of a Toyota Avanza, just in front of her family home. The 73-year-old grandmother Nkasi Petros who was living with her said she is shocked, sad and devastated. She still cannot believe that her “sweet” grandchild was killed like a dog on the street in front of her house.

“I’m still trying to wrap my head around what happened because I still cannot believe that Simamkele was killed just like that. My beautiful grandchild who never gave me problems. I still cannot believe it. She is the only elderly person I was living with at the house. She would run around helping me with a lot of things in the house,” said makhulu.

She told Ezitshisayo that on the day of the incident, Simamkele went out to buy bread as they were about to have breakfast. While she was still not back, makhulu heard gunshots and someone came into her sitting room running telling her that Simamkele had been shot.
“I wanted to run outside right away but the person said I must not since the shooting was still ongoing. He said she was just shot in the leg and someone would rush her to the clinic and I should relax a little bit,” she said.

After the shooting, makhulu said that is when someone came into the house again, telling her that Simamkele had died. She said among other areas, her granddaughter was shot on her face. She said the person who shot her really wanted her dead.

“She was killed for what? We don’t know, we are also eager to know what wrong did she do for her to be killed in such a manner. We have more questions than answers but we will wait for law enforcement officials to do their work,” she said.
