A taxi crashed and landed in a river in Kuilsriver, Cape Town on Monday 07 July. Onlookers said the driver was not being chased by anyone and he was alone on the bridge.

To their shock, they saw the taxi plunging into the river. “For a second I thought the driver was a learner because there was no car that distracted or bumped into him. It just drove straight into the river,” said a security guard who witnessed the incident.

The driver however managed to escape from the partially submerged vehicle and ran away. “He ran away and left the Quantum in the water. I don’t know why he was running away,” said the security guard.

When Ezitshisayo arrived at the scene, the taxi owner also arrived. He looked destressed and couldn’t speak about what had transpired. Those close to the taxi owner said the taxi is still new.

“He must be stressed because he bought it last month and it was about to get on the road,” said one friend as explained to a police officer.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed the incident.
“This office can confirm that an accident report was opened. According to the driver of the white taxi drove over the bridge on Old Nooiensfontein Road between Riverside Gardens and Kalkfontein areas when a white in colour sedan knocked his taxi on the right front side and he swift and landed in the canal. He had no other passengers with him. He only sustained slight injuries on his left arm,” said Van Wyk.
