WATCH: It ended in tears for hijackers

Accident at Baden Powell Drive
Three men who robbed cops using knives died in an accident.

Three daring robbers died after the hijacked vehicle they were driving collided with a truck on Monday 15 July. The incident happened on Baden Powell Road close to Monwabisi Beach area in the evening.

According to a Ezitshisayo sources, the three men robbed two off duty policemen at knifepoint. Allegedly, the two officers were sitting inside a Polo at the beach when three men armed approached them. Armed with knives, they threatened, robbed and hijacked the Polo and sped off at high speed.

The escape was however short lived as they collided with a truck that was on Baden Powell Drive. The driver of the truck as well as the three robbers all died at the scene.

Residents from Monwabisi Park, an informal area close to where the incident occurred said they heard a loud bang and a crashing sound. When they checked at the road they saw a Polo under a truck.

“The Polo was completely crashed and into pieces. It was obvious that no one would survive that kind of an accident. Even the impact on the truck was huge, hence the driver also passed away,” said a resident from the area.
