Police have confirmed that a truck accident on the N2 freeway near Macassar on Wednesday resulted in one death and five injuries. The injured include three men and two women, aged between 34 and 37.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi stated that a case of culpable homicide has been opened. A video shows the truck travelling along the N2 when the container it was carrying struck the Kramat Road bridge. The impact caused the container to detach from the trailer and fall onto a passing vehicle.
According to Swartbooi, the truck was heading from Cape Town towards Strand when the accident occurred. “The container hit the Kramat Bridge and was thrown from the truck, causing significant damage and loss of life. The driver of the vehicle struck by the container sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
“Five other victims, aged between 34 and 37, including three men and two women, were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Macassar police have opened a case of culpable homicide for further investigation,” said Swartbooi.
