Two men have died following a tragic accident on the N2 highway in Macassar early Saturday morning, 17 August 2024.
The accident occurred around 4am when a vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a bridge pillar. Arnold Mabika, a motorist who witnessed the scene, reported to Ezitshisayo that he saw the crashed vehicle while driving towards Cape Town.
“I parked at a nearby filling station and called the police and ambulance. The crash had just happened, and no emergency services were on site yet. Thankfully, the police and ambulance arrived shortly after,” said Mabika.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident, stating that the two victims, both males, were found dead at the scene.
“The Macassar police responded to the complaint early on Saturday. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle stationary and the two victims lying on the road. Medical personnel declared them deceased on site. We are investigating the case as culpable homicide and urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111,” said Swartbooi.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
