Trending ‘tsotsi’ cops arrested
Three police officers were arrested after they grab and ran away with a motorist's phone.

Three officers who have trending on social media have been arrested following several days of investigation. The three cops, two constables were arrested in connection with theft of a cellphone.

According to police spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the cops were arrested in Gauteng. She said the officers committed the crime in Welkom, Free State on 01 July.

It is alleged that the officers who were driving a Polo stopped a motorist on the highway. The motorist refused to stop and went and only stopped at an Engen garage. The officers who had blue lights on their Polo went to the driver and snatched his phone and ran away.

The man reported the case, and the officers were traced and were arrested in Gauteng on 13 July.
National police commissioner Fannie Masemola said besides being arrested, the officers are attending disciplinary hearing. Masemola also condemned the actions of the three cops which he said doesn’t have place in the police force.

The pictures of the three officers have been circulating on various WhatsApp messages with people claiming that the officers breaking into people’s homes. In a viral voice note accompanying the pictures, a man is heard saying that they broke into a Khayelitsha home.

“They pretend as if they have a search warrant and gain entrance into your home. They tie the house owners before stealing their properties. Be careful of these people,” claimed the voice note.
