The murder of a taxi Sizwe Khobocwana has sent shockwaves to the taxi industry. The taxi boss was murdered outside his home in Kuilsriver on Tuesday this week while he had just returned from work. The deceased was the chairperson of Route 1 between Khayelitsha, Wynberg and Claremont.
The 55-year-old Khobocwana had just arrived home from work in his Ford Ranger bakkie when bullets started flying to his direction. The shooters disappeared in the darkness as they left the taximan dead. The shooters were allegedly driving a Mercedes Benz C200.
“We are shocked by the murder our boss, we do not know who killed him. It’s scary because you don’t know who will be targeted next,” said a Codeta affliated taxi owner. Codeta spokesperson Andile Khanyi said they are shocked by the developments and they are not aware who could have killed him. Khanyi said they are expecting to hear more from cops on circumstances behind the killing.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident.
“Members attended to the complaint on Tuesday. Upon arrival at the crime scene in Dorado Street at around 7.30pm, they found the body of a 55-year-old man who sustained gunshot wounds. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” he said.
