Residents of Leiden in Delft woke up to a tragic scene on Friday, 17 January 2025, after a young man was found dead on the street.
According to a local resident, the incident occurred between 11 pm and midnight. “We heard a gunshot and the sound of people running, but we were too scared to go outside. About an hour later, some neighbours went to check and discovered the body of a 17-year-old boy lying face down on the road. He had been shot in the head,” the resident said.
Police spokeswoman Anelisiwe Manyana confirmed the incident and said a case of murder is under investigation.
“Delft police registered a case of murder for further investigation following a shooting incident in the early hours of this morning (Friday, 2025-01-17) in Gash Street, Leiden, Delft. According to reports members attended to the crime scene where upon arrival they found the body of an unidentified young man lying in the streets with a gunshot wound sustained to his head.
“The victim was declared deceased at the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. Anyone who may have information pertaining this incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Manyana.
