A 31-year-old police officer was arrested after he allegedly raped his friend on Friday last week. According to IPID, the officer met the woman while she was with her male friend around 1am in the morning. The officer is attached at Paarl SAPS.
The woman and her male friend were looking for a place to buy booze. The officer offered to show them the place and they bought two beers. After that, the cop convinced the two to go with him to his house.
On arrival, they drank booze and the friend who was with the woman fell asleep. Allegedly, the cop used the opportunity to rape the woman at knife point.
“The police officer allegedly assaulted the complainant, put a knife on her neck and raped her. She woke her male friend up when the police officer went to the bathroom, and they left.
“She reported the incident to the police and IPID took over the investigation after the suspect was identified as a police officer,” said IPID spokesman Phaladi Shuping.
The cop appeared in Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody. The case was postponed to 09 July 2024 for a formal bail application.
