Eight ‘would-be’ robbers killed in Khayelitsha
Police have shot and killed eight men in Khayelitsha.

Police in Cape Town have shot and killed eight men in Town Two in Khayelitsha this evening. According to police spokeswoman Brigadier Novela Potelwa, police received a tip about robbers who were planning a cash in transit robbery.

The officers working together with a security company followed the leads and managed to pounce on the robbers.
“As the team approached the suspects, the would-be robbers started firing shots at police who retaliated. As a consequence, eight suspects were shot dead and five were arrested,”Potelwa said.

Police recovered seven AK 47 rifles, two R5 rifles, one R4 rifle, one dashboard rifle, two pistols, explosives and several magazines filled with ammunition.

Potelwa said officers are still at work investigating and following on additional information. She added that in total, cops recovered 13 firearms.

“The criminals were allegedly planning a cash in transit robbery,” said Potelwa.
