A Cape Town man who filled up petrol at a filling station and sped off without paying in Parow on Tuesday 04 at night landed up in big trouble.
This is after Metro Police and a security company from the area chased and caught him with the fuel nozzle still in the tank and the horse pipe still dangling since it broke from the fuel station at the time he drove off.
Not only that, the cops then discovered some drugs inside the car and also that the driver was using fraudulent number plates.
MMC of Safety and Security Jean-Pierre Smith said the incident happened while he was patrolling with the Action Society’s director Ian Cameron.
“A private security company flagged Metro Police members down in Cravenby to inform them of a perpetrator who had just stolen fuel and had driven off without paying.
Metro Police provided assistance to Warsia security, where the vehicle was brought to a stop at the corners of Short Rd and Connaught Rd. At the time, the fuel nozzle was still in the tank, with the fuel hose dangling after it had been ripped off from the pump by the driver’s attempt not to pay,” Smith said.
Smith thanked the vigilant “quick thinking” security guards that informed the Metro cops about the theft which then led to the arrest and recovery of drugs and fake number plates.
“A case was opened at Elsiesriver police station, with charges for theft, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs and false number plates,” Smith added.
