A Delft family is heartbroken after their son was found dead in a pool of water on Monday 15 July in Thubelitsha area. The deceased Leon Langenhoven (19) had left his home in Tsunami with friends on Sunday evening but on the following day, his family was informed that he had died.

Mother Sandra Langenhoven (42) could not hold her tears back as she broke down at the crime scene. She told Ezitshisayo that the news about the death of her son was unexpected. “He went out with friends as he normally does and then the next thing, we are told he is dead. Why, my son, why?” said Sandra.

The deceased’s brother Paul Langehoven (23) tried to comfort his mother who was crying after identifying the body. According to residents, Leon’s body had several cuts and the deepest was on the shoulder.

“It looks like these people want to chop off his right hand. The cut is deep, it seems like his attackers had an axe,” said one resident. Leon’s was found in a pool of water that is full of rubbish. However, a few meters away from the pool there was lots of blood on the ground. It seemed like Leon was attacked next to a tuckshop.

“He was attacked at the tuckshop and was thrown into the pool of water. They probably did that when he was already deceased,” said one resident who was at the scene.

Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident. “Delft police registered a murder case for investigation after the body of an unknown man was found in a pool of water on an open field in Malberry Street, Thubelitsha, Delft on Monday, 15 July 2024. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” said Twigg.
