Celebrity blogger Musawenkosi Khawula appeared in the Fochville Magistrates’ Court today, 24 January, facing charges of attempted murder. He also faces alternative charges of reckless driving and an additional charge for failing to assist or report an accident to the police.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on 20 February 2021, around 6 p.m near Mponeng Mine in Carletonville, Gauteng. According to National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman Lumka Mahanjana, the complainant and his wife were driving on a narrow road when they spotted a Volkswagen Polo parked along the roadside.
Khawula was standing beside the car, naked from the waist down. As the couple approached, they discovered another man in the back seat, who was also undressed and getting dressed. The couple confronted Khawula for trespassing on private property, which led to a heated argument. It appears the two had just had tlof tlof or were about to have it inside the vehicle when they were disturbed.
Khawula then got into his car and drove off quickly but reached a dead end, forcing him to make a U-turn. As he turned, he allegedly hit the complainant, who was standing near the driver’s side of his own vehicle. Khawula fled the scene, leaving the injured man on the ground.
A member of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) later found the injured complainant and alerted the police. Khawula was arrested shortly after at a nearby tavern. He first appeared in court on 22 February 2021 and was released on R1,000 bail.
However, Khawula missed two court appearances, leading to his bail being forfeited and a warrant issued for his arrest on 17 June 2021. He was re-arrested and brought to court again on 16 January 2025.
Khawula now faces charges of attempted murder, reckless driving, and failing to assist or report the incident. The case has been postponed to 5 February 2025 for a formal bail application, and he remains in custody.
