Residents of Delft were left in disbelief when an elderly man suddenly collapsed and passed away while walking along the street at midday on Wednesday, 29 January.
According to a source who spoke with Ezitshisayo, the man was walking ahead of another individual on Leiden Avenue, accompanied by his wife, when he unexpectedly fell onto the road. Efforts were made to assist him, and emergency services were immediately contacted. However, when paramedics arrived at the scene, they pronounced him deceased.
An eyewitness expressed their distress over the shocking event, stating that they had attempted to help, but their efforts were unsuccessful. According to those familiar with the deceased, he had been unwell for some time. Upon checking his identification, it was discovered that he was born in 1964, making him 61 years old.
Another resident, who had just collected her child from school, recounted seeing a crowd gathered around the man as he lay on the ground. She chose to walk past the scene with her daughter to shield her from witnessing the incident. Later, she was stunned to learn via a community WhatsApp group that the man had passed away. Those who knew him mentioned that he had a history of heart issues and was undergoing medical treatment. He was also a resident of Leiden.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a police spokesperson, confirmed that officers had responded to the situation and that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of death. Authorities have registered an inquest, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish further details surrounding the circumstances of his passing.
