Inkabi was allegedly paid R500 to kill a pregnant Melanie Nelson.

Residents from Heideveld are angry and calling for justice after a pregnant woman was murdered by inkabi allegedly sent by her ex-girlfriend.

The deceased woman Melanie Nelson was dating a lesbian woman who allegedly hired inkabi after she decided to leave her. She allegedly hired a gang member Quinton Jacobs (29) and paid her R500 to kill Melanie.

Tears flowed at Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday as Quinton, made his first appearance for the murder of Melanie 27 who was 27 years old. It is alleged that Quinton is a member of a gang from the area. Other gang members were allegedly angry that he shot and killed a woman over R500 so they forced him to hand himself at the police station.

He allegedly went to Manenberg police station and handed himself over. Melanie worked as a cleaner for the EPWP and used to be in a relationship with a woman. Her aunt Ruwayda Stoffels told Daily Voice that Melanie always told her that her girlfriend abused her and she left the relationship three months ago but ex-girlfriend became obsessed with her. The residents from the area told the paper that the killer was paid only R500 to kill Melanie.

She moved in with her new boyfriend and she was two months pregnant at the time she was murdered. Melani was killed on Wednesday last week. Her body that had serious injuries was found next to a foot bridge in the area.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms the murder and says when Gugulethu police arrived on the scene they found the body of a female covered with a blanket next to the footbridge.
