Hawks arrested two men while they were inserting a skimming device on an ATM in Claremont, Cape Town. The incident happened on 11 December.

The men were trapped after a security company found a hi-tech device on 10 December at an ATM in Rondebosch area. They informed police and the matter was reported at Hawks based in Bellville. The security company in the area saw the men removing an ATM camera.

On the following day, the Security Management Solutions company and Hawks set up a live video monitoring an ATM.

Later on they saw two men driving a silver BMW. They parked the car and walked straight to the ATM that was under surviallence.

The security company identified one suspect, the one who removed the cash dispensary camera unit the previous day. They immediately informed the members of the Hawks who were also observing.

“The team approached the BMW and managed to arrest the driver and the one who removed the cash dispensary unit.
The team recovered the deep insert tool as well as the deep insert Hi-tech device in their possession. The duo will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court today, 13 December 2022,” said Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani.
