Police arrested a Samora Machel man for shooting at someone on Saturday morning.
The incident happened on Sol Plaaitjies Road.
Police were patrolling when they were told about a shooting that had just happened.
According to a resident who spoke to Ezitshisayo, there was an argument before the shooting.
“These people were drinking beer earlier. I don’t know what went wrong because they enjoyed themselves and had fun. Around midnight, we heard some arguments and gunshots followed,” said a resident who didn’t want to be named.
Those at the scene said the man was shot in the head at shot range.
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said police were busy patrolling when they were told about the incident.
“Members of Operation Restore were busy with crime prevention operations in Samora Machel in the early hours of Saturday morning when they were stopped by a member of the community who informed them about a shooting incident that occurred and that the suspect is known.
“The members proceeded to the crime scene in Sole Plaaitjes Road and the suspect was pointed out by the witness. A 62-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of murder and his firearm was confiscated. He is due to make a court appearance in the Philippi Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged,” said Twigg.
In a different incident, police arrested a 60-year-old man in Philippi with an unlicensed firearm. After police asked him to produce a licence for the gun, he failed and was arrested. He is expected to appear in Philippi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 05 December 2022.
