Four arrested over brutal Wyberg court murder

Police in Cape Town have made a breakthrough in a murder case that shocked the community when a woman was shot and killed outside Wynberg court last week, 25 May.

The victim, believed to be a witness in a court case, was ambushed by a gunman and shot while walking with two other women. Police have now arrested four suspects in connection with the shooting.

According to police spokesman Lieutenant Malcolm Pojie, an integrated investigation team comprising detectives from the Provincial office and Wynberg detectives were able to trace the suspects’ whereabouts and apprehend them. He said, through thorough investigation and forensic evidence, the suspects, aged between 24 and 33, were positively linked to the murder. Police also seized a silver Nissan Tiïda and cellular phones that will be analysed.

The four suspects are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court on Monday, 05 June 2023, facing charges of murder. Western Cape MEC of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen, applauded the police for their swift work in apprehending the suspects.

“I welcome the arrest of four suspects in connection with the brazen fatal shooting of a woman in Wynberg, which occurred about a week ago. This heartless killing has been making the rounds on social media, and I am pleased that SAPS acted in such a swift manner,” said Allen.

The community has been left in shock since the incident occurred and residents are calling on authorities to increase security in the area. This arrest will likely bring some sense of peace and closure to the victim’s family and friends.
