A taxi driver was shot and seriously injured in Delft, Cape Town during peak hour earlier today. The incident happened along the busy Symphony Way, causing serious congestion on the busy road for people who were going to work.

Speaking to Ezitshisayo, a motorist said a taxi driver was lying in the driver’s seat bleeding at the time he was driving past. “The taxi looked like there were commuters at the time the incident happened because there was a group of people who were standing next to it. When I passed, the incident was still fresh as police and ambulance services had not arrived,” said the motorist who didn’t want to be named.

A resident from the area Zizipho Phalaza(48) said she heard gunshots when she was walking her grandchild to school. “I dropped by grandson and when I returned there were lots of people and police gathered at the main road. When I arrived, a taxi driver was bleeding and injured. The driver’s door had several bullet holes,” said Zizipho.

Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana said the driver survived the shooting.

“Delft police are investigating an attempted murder following a shooting incident on Thursday (2024-08-08), at the corner of Symphony Way, Delft where a 36 year old man was shot and wounded.

“According to reports members attended the crime scene where they found a man inside a Toyota Quantum with gunshot wounds on his upper body. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.. The motive behind this incident is yet to be determined. The unknown suspect fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” sad Manyana.
