Siseko Mkhize(17) was shot dead for allegedly filming a “protection fee” gang in Siyahlala informal settlement, in Philippi Cape Town on 04 February 2024.
It is alleged that Siseko was seen taking videos of men who were walking on the streets with AK47 guns. When one of them noticed that they were being filmed, they chased Siseko, killing him inside of his family home in front of his grandmother.
In a shocking development, his elder brother was also shot and killed just after a prayer at their home on Wednesday 14 February. A neighbour who didn’t want to be named said residents came as usual to pray at the house on Wednesday evening. When they were dispersing, gunmen came from the street in front of the house and shot at Siseko’s brother Prince Mkhize killing him at the scene. Two other people were also injured and were rushed to the hospital.
“It is scary because the Siseko’s body was supposed to leave for Eastern Cape on Thursday, but his brother was shot on Wednesday night. The family had to cancel the program and now they must take both bodies to Eastern Cape next week. It is a scary situation, and we don’t know how we can comfort the mother. Those were her only two children,” said the neighbour.
Residents are now scared to attend the prayers which were being held every day at the house since the death of Siseko. “People are scared now because they don’t know what will happen next. The situation on the ground is difficult,” another resident said.
