Cape Town parents are lucky to have recovered their vehicle and baby after a horrific hijacking that happened on Saturday in Khayelitsha. A father had visited his uncle in Ilitha Park area where he was delivering chicken.
He parked a vehicle outside the uncle’s house and went to the back of the bakkie to take the chicken for the uncle. While he was still at the back, five gunmen arrived and robbed them their phones. The robbers went on to hijack the Isuzu bakkie and drove away with the child.
“The complainant then tried to get a brick to break the window of the LDV in order for the suspects to stop but they kept on going. The complainant then immediately reported the incident at the police,” said police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk.
On Saturday, social media platforms around Cape Town were plastered with the pictures of the little Tinashe Sundayi. Several people were stating that the baby have been found in Du Noon on Sunday morning.
Instead, Van Wyk said the boy was found in Makhaza near Golden Arrow buses and the bakkie was found in Tabang Bookolane road in SST area. He added that the child has been taken to the doctor earlier today. Police are still looking for the suspects.
“An appeal is hereby made to anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Van Wyk.
