Residents from Emsindweni informal settlement in Makhaza were shocked to discover a dead body of a man in their streets on Saturday 26 November.

Residents who saw his body before he was covered by police said he had stab wounds on the chest.

According to residents, the deceased lived around their area. They told Ezitshisayo that they heard a person screaming for help around 1 am but the voice faded away.

“I heard the screaming but I decided not to go out for my safety. I couldn’t call the police either because I didn’t have airtime. I just posted on our community WhatsApp group but people were fast asleep,” said Nandipha Stuurman, a resident.

When the Ezitshisayo reporters went to the area, they saw residents gathered at the scene. The family of the deceased were also on the scene.

The deceased’s sister who stays in Goodwood said she is in shock. “I received a call early in the morning to rush to Khayelitsha.

“I’m hurt and I do not know who killed my brother and why. I also don’t know how my mother is going to do when I tell her about this incident,” she said.

Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said they are investigating a case of murder.  “Anyone with any information about this incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Twigg said.
