Angry ababhlali from Kraaifontein hunted and moered a ‘prophet’ accused of abusing young girls in Phase 6 in Wallacedene on Sunday 12 January 2025. Allegedly, to lure his victims, the man prophesied his victims and tell them scary things about their future. After that he would allegedly ask them to come to his place to get spiritual assistance. He would then manipulate and sleep with them.
Allegedly, at his house he would perform certain rituals on them including taking these girls to perform rituals at the graveyard. Neighbourhood watch chairperson in Wallacedene area John Tye believes that this man is using umthi on these girls.
“He went on to go and pray for these kids at a graveyard and at a river in Mbekweni area. We don’t know what because all these things were done when parents were not aware of it. We are angry about this. In his house we saw a Vaseline bottle with a paper of the girls and something that looked like umuthi,” said Tye.
On Sunday last week Tye said they were informed by a whistle blower that the man was in church. They decided to go to the church which the alleged prophet attends. When they got there, he was not in church, and the pastor told them that he had left.
“We got a message from someone telling us the house he had hid himself. We got to the house and angry residents beat him up, but I had to restrain them so that they would not kill him. While this was happening, I called police and they arrived and took him away in a van,” said Tye.
A mother of a 18-year-old victim said her daughter is struggling at school and is suffering from endless headaches. She said her daughter met the prophet through a friend.
“He started by prophecying about her life, he apparently told her that she was going to be paralysed and unable to walk. She then went to him to get help since she feared that what had been prophesied may happen to her. This is how my daughter became a victim,” said the mother.
What made Tye and Kraaifontein residents angry is that police took the man to the police station and didn’t detain him. Instead, Tye said he was taken to the hospital where he allegedly escaped.
“He is roaming on the streets as we speak. Only God knows how many more people he is going to ra** while he is a freeman,” said Tye.
Ezitshisayo is still waiting for a comment from the police regarding the incident.
