Two people including a taxi driver are fighting for their lives in hospital after the taxi they were driving in lost control in Cape Town on Sunday 18 August in the afternoon. The incident happened at Hospital Bend on Sunday afternoon.
According to police, two taxis collided on N2 causing one to veer off the road and crashed into the nearby fences. The taxi rolled and crashed into a security hut before landing in a nearby parking lot. Luckily the security escaped unscathed.
Innocent Maputi (44) who witnessed the incident said the vehicle was driving from Cape Town on N2 highway. He alleges that the taxi was pushed out of the road by another taxi which was also going in the same direction.
“If there were more people in the taxi we would be talking about deaths. The way the incident happened was so terrible. The other taxi that was involved was not damaged that much,” said Maputi.
Western Cape’s Department of Health and WellnessWestern spokesperson Byron La Hoe also confirmed the incident.
“Groote Schuur Hospital confirms that the minibus taxi crashed into the security hut. The security guard, who was inside the hut at the time of the incident, managed to safely get out in time. He was offered counselling by the hospital. Two injured vehicle occupants, including the driver, were admitted for treatment at the hospital. One patient is currently admitted in the hospital’s high care unit, and the other patient has been discharged,” said La Hoe.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi also confirmed the incident.
